Kemi Alabi (them/they)

Cultural Strategy Director, Forward Together

As Cultural Strategy Director, Kemi harnesses the power of culture to build a world where we all thrive. Since joining Forward Together in 2014, Kemi has worked with writers and artists of color to replace oppressive narratives with liberatory ones. Today Kemi directs Forward Together’s growing cultural work, including our Echoing Ida and Art as Power programs. A writer, editor and teaching artist with over a decade of experience, Kemi has worked with organizers in housing rights, the movement for Black lives, reproductive justice and queer and trans justice movements to powerfully communicate visions of liberation. Author of The Lion Tamer’s Daughter (YesYes Books, 2020) and co-editor of The Echoing Ida Collection (Feminist Press, 20201), their poetry and essays can be found in Boston Review, Guernica, The Rumpus, Catapult, The Guardian, Best New Poets 2019 and elsewhere.
