I am both a person of color AND a woman. I am both queer AND working class. I am always both/and without having the luxury of disregarding my multiple realities, which I don’t want to nor should I be forced to.
We did it! We – ACLU, LSPC, ACOG, CYWD, the many organizational supporters and nearly 6,000 individuals who took action – passed a law prohibiting leg irons, waist chains, and handcuffs behind the back from being used on pregnant women in California jails and prisons!
My question is: why do people get to collectively comment on my body, my sex, my family, my choices, and my life circumstances?
