Classification: Full-Time, Regular, Non-Exempt, At Will

Location: This job may be worked from a remote position with a preferred location in the Central or Eastern Time Zone

Office Hours: 10am – 6pm CST

Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000 Annually

Benefits: Benefits are generous, with fully paid employee and dependent coverage for health, vision, and dental; and long-term disability insurance. Paid time off includes sick days, vacation, and holidays. In addition, we close our offices for two weeks in December.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Echoing Ida Manager is responsible for leading the development, execution and evaluation of Echoing Ida, a narrative shift program of Forward Together and home for Black women and nonbinary writers. The Echoing Ida Manager advances the overall mission and goals of Forward Together with particular emphasis on fostering a community of writers, disrupting unjust media narratives, and engaging Echoing Ida’s growing audience. The Echoing Ida Manager is also responsible for developing new media projects and managing events.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Staff Teams and Supervision
  • Works closely with the Cultural Strategy Director to develop program strategy
  • Works with the Movement Building and Culture Strategy Team to coordinate and leverage Echoing Ida for maximum organizational and movement impact
  • Actively participates in other cross-departmental teams, staff meetings and strategy and planning meetings as assigned
  • Supervises the Echoing Ida Coordinator
  • Works with contract editors and other professional consultants as needed

 

  1. Administrative Systems
  • Manages Echoing Ida Slack and other program infrastructure
  • Effectively utilizes all financial and 501(c)3 related management systems
    • Examples include: accurate and on-time reporting of monthly credit card expenses
  • Accurately tracks and reports lobbying activities

 

  1. Echoing Ida Community
  • Leads relationship and skills building of the Echoing Ida community, tracking small group needs and individual progress with contract editors and Echoing Ida coordinator
  • Supports design and facilitation of annual Echoing Ida retreat
  • Books and preps facilitators for monthly trainings
  • Manages alumni network engagement, including editor requests, stipends, troubleshooting and evaluation
  • Facilitates collaborations between Echoing Ida writers and Forward Together staff
  • Evaluates and adapts program partnerships to ensure alignment with goals and positioning

 

  1. Truth Teller Network
  • Designs and implements content strategy for Echoing Ida email program, including monthly newsletters and other email campaigns, with support for the Echoing Ida coordinator
  • Designs and implements content strategy for Echoing Ida Twitter, with support from the Echoing Ida Coordinator
  • With Culture Strategy Director, manages Echoing Ida Truth Teller Circles, including topic generation, organizational relationship-building and coordination, speaker prep, and moderation
  • With Culture Strategy Director, evaluates of all aspects of Echoing Ida program including retreat, trainings, mentorship, and effectiveness of narrative disruption and generation

 

  1. Training and Presentations
  • Develops trainings and/or workshops for Echoing Ida retreat and conferences as needed

 

  1. Fundraising
  • Collaborates with the Development Department to ensure alignment between Echoing Ida and grant deliverables
  • Attends/presents at funder briefings or meetings related to Echoing Ida as assigned by Executive Director

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience with narrative shift, communications, and media strategies
  • Demonstrated relationship-building and leadership development experience
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to social and reproductive justice
  • Demonstrated track record of management-level responsibilities including employee supervision
  • Demonstrated track record in program development, implementation and evaluation
  • Ability to manage priorities and workflow in a fast-paced environment
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
  • Strong ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds
  • Comfortable handling and being exposed to sensitive and confidential information
  • Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, web browsers, Gmail, Google Calendar and the basics of database and conferencing software
  • Experience with social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, Blogger and video sites, preferred
  • Experience with database preferred, such as Salesforce and other Constituent Relationship
  • Management (CRM) platforms
  • Ability to travel across the United States for trips of up to 4 days up to 9 times per year
